The New Place

Last spring, when C and I were making our Door County reservations, we found that the room rates at the place we normally stay at went up again. This is partly due to the fact that the family that owned it, sold it recently and it was bought by a man who owns several other properties in the area. We decided to look around at other accommodations to see what else would be available. We thought maybe we could find something a little less expensive but still on the peninsula.

After some searching, we found the place we are staying at right now. It's farther north than we have every stayed and unlike the previous two places, children are allowed.  I was a little nervous about it as I've had bad experiences with children in hotels. The reviews that we read said this was a fairly quiet place and we always come when school is in session. We both thought it would be all right.

We arrived here yesterday, later than we would have liked. There was a lot of road construction that slowed us down. We also spent 45 minutes visiting with my aunt and cousin at a bowling alley while my other cousin bowled with his Friday afternoon league.

The entrance to this hotel is beautiful. The landscaping is lovely and there is a long deck outside with white whicker furniture that looked very inviting. I could envision C sitting out there playing his guitar if the weather is nice enough. The lobby and entrance was spacious and welcoming as well. There is a common area with tables, chairs and shelves full of games and puzzles to use. Around the corner was a pool and hot tub area.

Our room is on the second floor. We loaded up a cart, got into the elevator and wheeled the cart to what felt like the farthest end of the hotel. We opened our door with a metal key. Not the key cards found at most places. C carefully pushed our cart into a narrow hallway. The hallway was so narrow that our cart just barely fit. He put our suitcases in the bedroom while I put our other bits of luggage away.

We have a suite of three small rooms. The bedroom is on one side of the hallway. There is a large king sized bed and a small jacuzzi tub. The TV sits on a dresser by the door and a tiny closet of hanging items is on one side of the bed.

A small bathroom is opposite the bedroom. There is a sink and tub with shower. It's very small and definitely meant for one person at a time.

At the end of the hall is the largest room. A third of the space is taken up with a galley kitchen. The kitchen has a stove and oven, a large sink and dishwasher. Plates, glasses, eating utensils, and measuring spoons, pots, pans, can openers a toaster and blender are in the cabinets in the kitchen. There are bar stools under the kitchen counter so there is a place to sit and eat.

The rest of the space is the living room. There is a comfortable chair and couch with a wood coffee table. A flat screen TV is mounted over a small gas fireplace. There are two lamps in each corner making it a well lit and cozy space. A large sliding glass door opens onto a small deck that has a table and chairs on it.

Because there is so little room in the bedroom, I have to keep one of my suitcases in the living room. Staying a week means that we bring a lot of stuff with us. It's not bad, it fits into a corner by the couch and is out of the way.  I think this will be a very comfortable place to stay. I'm looking forward to visiting our favorite places and discovering new ones in the next week.
