The Sun is Out
The past few years it seems like we get a lot of rain in the spring. I've never checked to see if my feelings match reality. I've taken to calling it monsoon season. Last year, there was so much rain that our sump pump was working constantly to keep the water from our basement. I gained a new appreciation for sump pumps.
We got our garden planted before the rains started. I was happy that I didn't have to water the carrot and wildflower seeds we planted. I got concerned as it seemed there were no days without rain. I hoped that my seeds would take root and would not be washed away or rot.
Tuesday there was no rain in the forecast so we loaded up and went to our favourite trail for a ride. It felt good to stretch our legs and get some extended time outside. The river was high but not overflowing the banks. Once the weather gets warmer it will be a fun place for people to tube.
Everything was green and lush. There were only a few small puddles on the trail from the most recent rain. As we rode we saw young deer on the trail. One of them was munching on some of the plants and did not run away as we passed by. We had seen deer on the trail before, but never this many.
We had lunch as usual at our favourite coffee shop and enjoyed some ice cream before heading back to our starting point at Welch. C saw a bluebird. I was sad that I missed it. Bluebirds look like pieces of sky with wings. The sun came out and it was nice and warm. Both of us are in good riding shape now so we took one break for some water.
Once we got home, I inspected the garden. There were a lot of weeds and I pulled a several of them. I saw the tiny carrot seedlings popping up from the ground. I was glad that the rain had not affected the seed. I walked out to where the wildflowers were planted. There were seedlings there too. I'm not sure if they are flowers or weeds. The seed packet was a mix of different plants.
It's supposed to be hot the next few days. We'll have to water those seedlings. I'm looking forward to another nice carrot crop and seeing what kind of flowers pop up.
