The Necklace

 



        The last time we went to Red Wing the art store in the old depot was open. I like to go in there because they have shows of various types of art and a store that sells items made by local artists. There are all kinds of things there and I like to look at them. Most of the time I  purchase something as it helps the artists and funds art displays.    

        I looked around as always, There are so many neat things. I saw some interesting tea cups and some beautiful hand dyed silk scarves. I looked at the jewelry. I always like looking at jewelry not matter where I am. 

        I saw something bright and round as I walked past a rack of necklaces. I paused to look at it. It was a small, round gold pendant with a rose in the middle. The background had a beaten appearance. The shiny appearance made it stand out form all the other necklaces around it. The back of the pendant was a pattern of rays coming out from the center. The chain was silver, thin and beaded, not something I usually see. Most of the time the chain matches the pendant.

        I walked away from it and looked at some other things. I walked out of the store. I wanted to buy that necklace. I didn't need another necklace. I already own a lot of jewelry, probably too much. That necklace seemed to be calling me though.

        I found C and walked back into the store with him. I showed him a gorgeous silk scarf and the necklace. I told him that I already has silk scarves that I don't wear much and that I wanted to buy the necklace. He looked at the price. It was expensive, but not too bad. Definitely doable. He told me to buy it.

        I did and put it on immediately. It looked like it was made for me. It hung in exactly the right spot for a necklace. The silver chain was so light that it looked like the pedant was floating. 

        I've worn it nearly every day since I bought it. It looks good with everything. It's not too fancy to wear during the day or at work and it's something that looks good on dressier outfits. I don't think I've ever worn a necklace this much. It makes me happy looking at it. It was a good purchase.

The First is the Worst

     Last week C and I decided that it was time to get the bikes out. The wheel passes for the Cannon Valley Trail had come in the mail. The weather was nice and it was time to ride.    We got a later start than we had planned. We had some discussion over riding the CVT or  a trail nearer to home. We eventually decided to ride the CVT starting at the Welch midpoint and riding toward Cannon Falls. The trail has a slight incline going that direction and we thought it would be easier. Cat Lady

         Around the same time that a person running for national office made comments about people without children, it was also reported that he made a derogatory remark about childless cat ladies. I'm not going to write about the childless part, I addressed that last week. I am going to take issue with the use of cat lady as an insult.          I know two other women who are cat ladies. Neither one of them is miserable. In fact both of them are happy and content with their lives. They love the felines that live with them and take care of them. Besides cats, both of them are avid gardeners and enjoy surrounding themselves with plants and flowers. The New Year

      My alarm went off at 5 AM as it always does. After going to bed at close to 1AM, my first thought was to turn it off and go back to sleep. I couldn't do it. The cats needed to be fed and I didn't want to interrupt my usual morning routine.     I gave each cat half a can of wet food which is their treat twice a week and on holidays. While they ate I took down all our old calendars. We usually have three. Two of them are traditional hanging calendars in the kitchen and in our computer room. The other is a page a day calendar in the kitchen. I buy different page a day calendars every year. This year's calendar is inspiring quotes from women.     I gathered the old calendars up and put them in the recycling bin.
