The Lost was Found
This week C and I had our yearly optometrist appointments. There are several things I need to take with me to this appointment. I need my glasses case, my contact case, contact solution and my wallet. I have a large purse that I use to carry all these things.
We went to the appointment and got our new eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions. After the appointment, I took my wallet and eyeglass case out of my purse and put them in the glove box inside the car. We had other errands to run and I didn't want to carry the purse with me. I wouldn't need my wallet or glasses and felt they would be safer locked in the glove box as opposed to being in the purse which would be in the trunk.
We had some lunch and then ran our errands. When we got home, we took the things we bought out of the car into the house. I grabbed my wallet and glasses along with a few other items. I went to the trunk of the car, grabbed the purse and slung it over my shoulder. Then I went into the house and put everything away.
Several hours later, I wanted to remove my contacts. I went into the bathroom and realized that my bottle of contact solution was not there. I remembered that I had brought it to my appointment and it was still in my purse. I went into the dining room to look for my purse. It was not there. I checked the music room, computer room and our bedroom. Couldn't find it. I checked all the closets. No purse.
I started to worry. Where was it? I was pretty sure I'd brought it into the house. C started looking. He couldn't find it. He went out to check the car. It wasn't there. I went out to check the car. Still wasn't there. I started to panic. Was I losing my mind? Had I only thought I'd brought it in? Had I hallucinated bringing it in? The purse wasn't in the house. Where could it be?
There was only one explanation. Our car had been broken into and the purse was stolen. It didn't make any sense though. The purse was in the trunk. No one except us knew it was there. Could someone break into our trunk without us knowing about it?
Fortunately, there was nothing of value in the purse, only my contact lens solution, a copy of The Scarlet Pimpernel and some old papers. I felt bad. it was a nice purse.
C went to the store to get some contact lens solution. I stood in the kitchen wondering where the purse was. I looked at one of the bar chairs in the kitchen. When we aren't sitting in them we keep them by the kitchen windows so the cats have someplace to sit when they look out the window. One of the chairs had a jacket slung over the back. There was a large bulge on one side of the jacket. I walked over to the jacket and moved the side over the bulge. There, hanging by the strap, was my purse.
It had been there the whole time. C and I must have walked past it a dozen or more times and neither of us thought to check underneath it. I was so relieved. I wasn't crazy. I had brought it in.
I showed it to C when he came back from the store. We both glad the lost had been found..
