Sometimes Technology is Good
I know that in the past I've voiced frustration over the dependence we now have on technology. When I first started working, we had fax machines, our insurance claims were transmitted in real time over phone lines and we filled prescriptions from pieces of paper brought in my customers or phoned in by nurses. Now we transmit claims over the internet, our phones are internet and the prescriptions for the most part are transmitted via....wait for it... the internet. When the internet connection goes down, we are severely crippled.
There are times where I'm grateful for the technology we have. Here are a few of those times.
I have several websites where I can bypass the password. A message comes to my phone. I answer yes to the message. The I get a six digit code which I enter in and then I'm logged in. I don't have to try to remember any one of the 15 or so passwords I have. I don't have to go through the hassle of changing my password to another password I won't remember. All I have to do is have my phone with me which is not hard. It's quick and easy and allows me to get done what needs to be done.
I have two apps and two websites where I can pay various bills. This is very convenient for me. I don't have to worry about the bill being late if the mail is delayed. It takes less time than it would for me to write a check. For credit cards, I can see the transactions which allows me to track spending better.
I like text messaging. I can stay in touch with a lot of people on a daily or weekly basis. Since I tend to communicate better in writing than in speech, it's better than making a phone call. I like the fact that I can text my cousin, Ann, and see if she is free for lunch next week. She can send me her address so we can pick her up. Texting also allows us to share pictures of our cats.
I do have to admit that while I like the convenience of texting, I miss getting letters in the mail and sending them. There is a down side to everything.
When I think about the things for which I am grateful, I count technology and those who fix it when it doesn't work.
Well written !! Thank you for your wonderful talent and gift in expressing your thoughts and feelings so well!
