The Annual Trip

We weren't sure that we were going to go on our annual trip to Door County. There is a pandemic going on after all. Also Wisconsin is, at the time of this writing, experiencing a large rise in cases. Hospitals are full and the Wisconsin Board that deals with licensing health care workers is asking for help from anyone who is currently licensed and not already full time.

We also were not sure if the peninsula would be open for visitors. After all visitors could bring in the virus and spread it all around causing all kinds of havoc. C called the B&B that we stay at. Yes, they were open and so was the rest of the peninsula. We decided to proceed, but use caution. We checked our favorite restaurants to make sure they were open and to find out if we needed reservations. We made reservations at a couple. The rest had carry out if we wanted. Everything looked good.

The next challenge was Scamp. This would be the first time he would be at home alone. We had already told our cat sitter about Colby, so she  knew what was going on. I emailed her Scamp's current routine. She asked a few questions and assured me that everything would be fine and she would keep an eye on Scamp.

We packed our bags and headed out. We stopped in Chippewa Falls to stretch out legs and buy some water. We drove through the country side looking at all the colorful trees. We drove through Wausau and looked at Rib Mountain.  Just past Wausau is Shawano. That is where we usually stop for lunch. We had a decision to make. Did we want to eat inside or go through the drive thru? There were a couple  people eating inside, but not many. We decided to get  our food to go. We found a parking spot and began to eat. It's kind of awkward to eat in the car, but it was cold and raining. We couldn't eat outside. After we finished I found a garbage can to throw away the trash.

We drove through Green Bay. Normally we would have stopped, but we had heard that it was a hotspot. We chose to drive by. We went through Sturgeon Bay. It was good to see it again. We were concerned that many of the places we like would have been closed. Except for the yarn shop, things seemed to be open.

We arrived at our B&B relieved to find that little about it had changed. The innkeepers were wearing masks, of course, and the tables in the breakfast room ad been arranged differently. That was about it.  We brought up our bags and settled into our room. We spent the rest of the day resting.

When it got toward dinnertime we were faced with another choice. Dine in or carry out. C wanted to get take out. We went to a Mexican place that we like and got our order to go. We parked at a spot overlooking a marina and ate while watching the water. It was nice, but cramped.

I read once we got back to our room. C attended a church meeting via Zoom. Soon we were both tired and went to bed. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the week will be like.
