New Glasses

I was told by my mother that my eyes would stabilize after age 40, it's one of the many lies she told me over my life. My eyes have never stabilized and get worse every year. This means that every year, I have to get new glasses. I dislike shopping for glasses as much as I do shopping for clothes. It's a chore to have to pick out new frames yearly. Also somewhat wasteful.

I used to have two sets of frames that I liked and would alternate between the frames. This helped to save money. It would also ensure that I would have a frames that would fit my face. I have a small face, no bridge on my nose and a very heavy prescription.

For some reason that I can't explain, I can't get this done anymore. This means that every year, I have to buy new frames again. I've found a place where I can get frames that are more affordable. The problem is that they don't have a good selection of smaller frames for a grown woman.

This year I decided to get my new glasses right after my eye appointment. I was always told to wait until after the beginning of the new year, but that never worked well for me. I'd have to settle for frames that were a bit too large. As a result I needed them adjusted almost every week.

There were five pairs that were the correct size. Of them, only two were ones I would actually be able to use. I picked the pair I wanted and asked C for a second opinion since He's good with things like this.

I took them to an employee so I could order the new glasses. She did all the usual measurements and asked all the usual questions. Then she gave me an option I never had before. There was another grade of high index plastic that they could use for my lenses. It was more expensive, but my lenses would be thinner if I used it. I said yes. Anything to decrease the weight of my glasses is something worth trying.

The next couple weeks, I waited eagerly for my new glasses. I was excited to try them. A few days ago I got the text on my phone. The glasses were ready.

On my next day off we went to pick them up. When I saw them laying in the case, I wasn't sure. The frames were thin, but looked black, How would that look on my face? I tired them on and was pleasantly surprised. I was even happier with how thin the lenses were. I wasn't going to be constantly pushing them up on my face, They were light enough to stay put once they were properly adjusted.

The next day we went for a walk at the mall. I don't know if it was real or just my imagination, but I felt like I could see things really well. Everything was clear. I've been wearing them since I got them and I'm very pleased with them. I finally found a pair that I truly like.
