The New Stove

The broiler on our trusty stove finally gave out a couple months ago. Although we could still use three of the four burners and the oven worked apart from the broiler, I felt it was time to replace it. I had been working a lot of extra hours so there was room in the budget.

We had looked at several stores and found one that we liked. C wanted to look at the model we chose a bit more closely and do some research. I eventually got frustrated and told him we needed to get moving on it. He said he wanted to look at one more place. I told him the features I wanted and that it needed to be white to match the rest of our appliances.

Last week I got a text from C. He had found a stove and purchased it. He was looking at a local appliance store and found one with the features that we both wanted. It would be delivered on Wednesday of the next week.

The day the stove was being delivered, C and I worked to clean around the stove and to make room for the delivery men to get it out. There was a four hour window for the delivery. We hoped it would be early so we could get some things done in the afternoon. While we were folding laundry the call came, the delivery men were 15 minutes away. We were ready. The car had been moved out of the garage and the garage floor had been swept.

The first thing the men did was to unplug and disconnect the gas lines from the old stove. Then they carried the old stove out. I'm always fascinated by how easy it looks. They gave us some time to clean the area where the stove was. There were four dust covered sparkle balls, a plastic baby spoon and an empty bag of cat treats. C swept the area and cleaned the bottom of the floor. The men brought our new stove in. They plugged it in and attempted to reconnected the gas line, but the adapters they had were all the wrong size. They called the service tech. He was out and we were worried that it might be a day or so before he could come. Fortunately he was able to come shortly after the delivery men left. He had to get one more part from a local hardware store. Once he got it, he was able to connect the gas. He checked the burners and stove to make sure they all worked. Then he left.

The stove top has a cast iron griddle in the middle that can be used to fry eggs and cook pancakes, French toast, cheese sandwiches and other things. This was a feature we saw and liked on other gas stoves. The oven has a pizza setting, an air fryer setting, a convection setting and broil. There is a bottom storage drawer which is something C really wanted. What it doesn't have is a printed owner's manual, something that really annoys me. In order to get information on how to operate the over features, you have to download an app. The app apparently also allows for a certain amount of control of the oven.

I'm looking forward to using it. Having four working burners will be very nice. I'm also looking forward to trying some of these new features to see how they work. I'll definitely need to learn more about using convection. The old one had a convection setting, but I never used it.

I think it's going to be fun.
