Trip #20

We are settled into our hotel after the drive to Door County. This is the twentieth trip we have made across Wisconsin to our favourite spot. This past week was hectic trying to get things done and get packed. As usual, I was scheduled to work most of the week which didn't leave me much time to pack or help with other chores. Friends were going to care for Willow so we had to move her litter box upstairs so they wouldn't have to go to the basement and make sure she had enough food and treats.

Eventually everything got done. C loaded the car and and we headed out. The new to us car we are driving does not have as much room as our old Jetta. C managed to get our suitcases in the trunk along with all the other things that we bring along. I gave Willow a kiss goodbye on her nose and we headed out.

It was misting as we drove east headed for the Wisconsin border. The sky was grey. It was just like our first trip. The rain continued the entire way just like the first time.

The first time we came to Door County together we drove to a bed and breakfast that my boss had recommended. We were met by an embarrassed innkeeper who told us that our room wasn't ready because the last guests burned a cheap candle and left soot marks on the ceiling. He was working to clean the room but wasn't finished yet. He asked us if we could give him a few more hours. We went back out into the cold rain and did some exploring. When returned the innkeeper escorted us to our cosy suite.  It rained the entire week were there. We always found something to do and had a very good time. Our first stay was Monday through Friday as I just didn't want to be away from work longer than that.

Over the years we started coming on Friday and leaving the following Saturday morning. Sometimes we would spend a night in Green Bay and leave on Sunday.

This time we were not going back to the cosy b and b that we loved so much. It closed two years ago. This time we were going to go the the hotel we stayed at last year. C had arranged for us to stay in the same room we had last year. It was ready when we got here here earlier this afternoon. We brought our luggage and other things into the room. Then we went out to get some dinner.

The restaurant we ate at the first time had closed a long time ago. Instead we went to Wilson's,C's favourite place. I had a hamburger. C had a club sandwich and his usual root beer. It wasn't like the romantic dinner we had the first time.  Things change in Door County. That's one of the things we love about this place. There are things that change and things that don't.

This trip we plan to explore and find places that we either haven't seen or haven't seen for a long time. When we are not exploring, I have a pile of books to read. a bag of knitting to work on and a hot tub to soak in.
